Hello and Good day again! You are listening to Just Logical and I’m your host Mason Mieczkowski.
Today we are talking about a young lady saddled with student load debt at the age of 37. Also, there are parasites that make us more attractive, well... let’s find out! Without further ado, let’s get into it! Student load debt is insane. When I attended community college in 2001, I paid for it out of pocket and each class cost less than $300. I didn’t do well. I focused on having fun, sowing wild oats, getting into some minor trouble, and making bad decisions I’ll never make again. When I went back to college in 2005 classes were $300 a credit hour in a private college. Today that college is a university! But also costs undergraduates $1070. Well, I had to move off campus halfway through because I couldn’t afford tuition and wanted to cut costs. Today, I have an MBA that amounted to $130,000 of debt and that is well above that with interest due to forbearances. And this gets us to this nice 37-year-old in interview by Lalljee. the state she has $30,000 in title as if it magically received $30,000 extra. Let’s dive into it now!
“Shanna Bennett owes more than $130,000 in student debt.... because of interest.”
Okay, that happens with loans...
“She says it's hurt her credit score, relationships, and ability to pay other debts, such as her car.” Okay, that happens with debt. My friend’s fiancée won’t marry him till he gets his credit under control and fixed. They own a house together. So, yeah... it happens. Those stinks. I would put my car payment over my student loan because you need it to work, and the other is long term debt. Did she apply for an income-driven repayment plan and with 25 years of payments remaining debt is forgiven? That exists, has since 1992.
Credit score affects where you are able to live. Rental units now require credit scores above the FHA 620 requirement for an FHA housing loan. This is a big issue and I’m going to jump into that in a minute.
“"It's affected me in every single way," she added. "When we talk about student debt, there's this idea that people who are openly talking about it are lazy and not hardworking, but we are."
'I saw that they were at $200,000, and that's when the shame set in'
Bennett said she wasn't aware of how difficult it would be to pay off her debt until she was in graduate school. And even then, she didn't realize she could make payments for nearly 15 years and still owe more than she did on graduation day.” True, you borrow more you forbear you owe more, it’s how interest and compounding interest particularly can build really fast.
Bennett is quoted stating "Looking back, I would have loved it if community college was pushed more. But the idea was that it wasn't challenging for me, or good enough for me."
I hate to advise you, community college has above a 60% dropout rate. You’re 37, you have a whole life to worry about this debt you can payback over 25 years. Don’t get discouraged.
Bennett also was discouraged as an HR manager (good job, can go anywhere with that) when she was learning how to manage her debt by paying off smaller bills and forgoing long-term investments because she pushed benefits on people she was advised to avoid.
That is good if you have an issue with credit score. So, it may affect your ability to:
Get an apartment or home
Get a vehicle
Get a phone
Get a job
Yes, you can be denied jobs if you have bad credit, usually caused by a high debt to income ratio.
This is important. When I started college, I expressed to the Financial Aide department that I didn’t want to incur debt that would hinder my ability to get a job. “Don’t worry, student loans won’t affect you that way. Just like medical debt.” Well today, medical debt is regular debt and is sold to regular debt collectors and it isn’t a special category. Nor are student loans.
So, when I had accumulated debt and needed a car loan I was denied because my debt to income was too high already due to student loans.
Same with credit cards and housing loans. Yes, I can’t buy a house making $70,000 yearly as a family because of student loan debt. So, we paid higher rent in a subpar community. Since my unfortunate divorce, I can’t get an apartment that checks credit.
So, as you guessed I live in dangerous areas that have cause theft and crime. I was assaulted so much because people thought I had a good job because I always make sure my kids are well taken care of.
But I had lost a job at a bank and it has been hard to get back into banking since. Why? Credit score. No one will hire someone to help people with debts when their debts are not taken care of. Since I can’t get the job, I went to school for now I am stuck grabbing anything that will hire me. But I have to leave off my MBA because it’s too advanced.
I am not going to get into my depression that built up because of this resulting into a spiral of victimhood that led me into despair.
But I had found my path to better health.
So, Mrs. Bennett, an immigrant at 7 years old, is discouraged. I say... you had $200,000 of debt and are now at $132,000. The best thing is as it goes down, it’ll dwindle faster. Keep at it. But she is holding out on Joe Biden.
Due to his forbearance, I had lost 2 years+ on my 25-year forgiveness which Navient had put me into forbearance rather than advising me to the income-driven repayment plan, which could have been as low as $0 a month and counted towards the 25 years.
Thanks a lot Joey Boy.
Mrs. Bennett is holding out: "I would love to travel right now," she said. "I have a good job and no kids, but I have this debt."
"I have just under $132,000 in debt remaining," she added, "and I'm watching very closely what the Biden administration does with student loans."
Don’t hold your breath, if $10,000 comes out it isn’t meant for you or me. Nor is the $50,000.
That’s for all the kids who dropped out and have no degree. They’re going to benefit the most. Because once I am healthy and back into the market full time for a year, I’ll look for a manager trainee position and work back up to a good spot again. My debt may never be fully paid, but I hope to get there. I would be very proud. Things Mrs. Bennett might want to do. Travel and find new communities that might have more affordable housing, lower insurance costs (Living outside of Buffalo costs me less in car insurance than within due to crime), and a community to raise children in. Yeah, you may make less, but when your expenses are cut in half, it becomes easier.
Yes, you can travel. Maybe not around the world, but get out and to a state park. Go to a festival in another state for a weekend. Firefly Festival allows for 4 payments to be made, minimizing upfront costs.
Enjoy a matinee and walks. What is sad, it seems her husband couldn’t deal with her debt. I am sorry about that. I feel her pain. But if debt forgiveness is offered. It won’t solve my debt problems nor hers. Alright, lets jump into how I am so attractive because of God, but you can be too with a parasite. All jokes aside, with everything going on today, something lighthearted and interesting is called for! See you on the backside!
All right, welcome back, again I’m Mason Mieczkowski and you’re listening to Just Logical. According to Andrie Ionescu, a parasite is sexually transmitted and we are learning that “Some sexually transmitted parasites, such as T. gondii, may produce changes in the appearance and behavior of the human host, either as a by-product of the infection or as the result of the manipulation of the parasite to increase its spread to new hosts,” explained the study authors.
Wait what? Change the appearance of a host? Let's look into that!!
“Since various studies have linked having higher levels of facial symmetry to better health, stronger genes, and increased sexual attractiveness, the scientists decided to examine the degree of symmetry in the facial features of a cohort of 35 college students – 22 males and 13 females – infected with T. Gondii, along with 178 uninfected students.”
“The results revealed that Toxoplasma-infected participants had more symmetrical faces than their uninfected counterparts. Moreover, female participants carrying the parasite had a lower body mass index than their peers, and reported that they had more sexual partners. Both infected men and women were rated by an independent group of 205 individuals as being more attractive and healthier than non-infected ones.”
Peter Dockrill’s article (2022) also talks about the similar effects of this parasite “"It is possible that the apparently non-pathological and potentially beneficial interactions between T. gondii and some of its intermediate hosts, such as rats and humans, are the result of co-evolutionary strategies that benefit, or at least do not harm, the fitness of both the parasite and the host," the researchers write.”
Wow!
Apparently, they believe there is a symbiotic relationship where the disease makes us more attractive so it can be spread to those uninfected! speaking of STDs! They are on the rise and we all should use protection when you are not looking to make children in a long-term committed monogamous relationship. Wear those condoms my friends.
According to Smith and Furtado (2022) " Toxoplasma gondii is probably the most successful parasite in the world today.” and “The disease caused by this parasite can scar the back of the eye. Our new research(opens in new tab) looked for signs of disease in otherwise healthy people and found a significant number bore the mark of Toxoplasma.”
“In a study(opens in new tab) of patients with ocular toxoplasmosis seen at a large ophthalmology clinic, we measured reduced vision to below driving level in more than 50% of eyes, and 25% of eyes were irreversibly blind.” So, I guess you’ll be blind and beautiful. Congratulations to all of you!!
Again, Condoms prevent STIs everyone!
I hope this is just logical for you all. Again, I am Mason Mieczkowski. See you next time!
